What to Expect Financially
How are Local Moves Calculated?
Firstly, there is a difference in how the price is calculated if you move locally or you relocate interstate.
As the name suggests, a local move is when you move within the same area, such as shifting within Sydney. Local moves are usually calculated based on the number of hours needed to complete the job. A small studio might cost just $300, but if your home has four or five bedrooms filled with items, you could spend up to $2,000. The hours required for local moves ultimately comes down to the volume of your move, how many movers will do the job and what truck size will be used. This is why providing a list of your inventory is so important to calculate the cost.

Please note: The table above does not include call-out fees or GST. Unlike many removalists, we only charge a call-out fee equivalent to our half-hourly rate for local moves in Sydney — typically $60 to $100, depending on move size. For St Marys and surrounding suburbs, no call-out fee applies.
Important Facts:
- Most removalists have a minimum charge of 3 to 4 hours. Ours is just two hours.
- Many charge a call-out fee — ours is capped at half the hourly rate for Greater Western Sydney. Higher rates may apply outside this area.
- We only apply a fuel charge if the travel distance exceeds 80km — no blanket surcharge.
- Shrink wrapping is included — we don’t charge extra for it.
- Bulky items like pianos, motorbikes or gym equipment may incur an added fee. While others charge up to $500, we cap it at $300.

How Are Regional and Interstate Moves Calculated?
Long-distance moves from or to Sydney often involve additional costs such as fuel, tolls, accommodation (for overnight trips), and staff wages for extended travel time. Pricing varies based on the size of the move (large or small removals), total distance, and any access challenges at either location.
At National Removalist, we only apply a fuel surcharge if the total travel distance exceeds 80km.
For moves around 250 km, prices typically start from ~$1,550 for smaller homes and can reach up to ~$3,300 for larger ones. Longer routes — especially those over 1,000 km — can cost significantly more due to time, logistics, and fuel consumption.

When figuring out your moving costs, it’s essential to consider all the necessary expenses and extras. These can include, but are not limited to:
Volume (m3) of Your Move
Got a lot of belongings? Keep in mind that the volume of items to be moved is the most important factor in calculating moving costs. The higher the volume, the more manpower is needed to complete the job. Heavier loads also require a bigger truck. Lastly, it impacts the number of hours required to complete the job.
Travel Distance
The travel distance between the two locations affects not only the number of hours required to complete the job, but also the amount of fuel we need to factor into your quote.
Moving Date
When you move matters just as much as how you move. Prices can vary depending on the day and season — for example, moving over a weekend or during summer is often more expensive than on a weekday in a quieter season. If your schedule is flexible, we recommend choosing a weekday for better rates.
Property Access
Stairs, tight hallways, difficult parking, or the need for disassembly can significantly increase labour time and effort.
Additional Services
